Re-covenanting service and presentation June 16, 2019
Katherine Bitzer, Board Chair
Sunday June 16 marked Bill's final service with Trinity, and we had a full house for a special re-covenanting service. Below are the words with which we bid him farewell, and a photo of the very special gift that was presented to Bill on behalf of the congregation.
Originally a window in the Hearth Room of 74 Frederick Street, this piece of stained glass was transformed into a beautiful mirror by Lynn Oliver.
We called and you came…
We didn’t call for you to come and be our friend
We didn’t call for a long-term relationship with you
We knew from day one you would one day leave just as quickly as you came
We called for you to take us out of our comfort zone
We called for you to help us leave behind an old decaying building and take up temporary root at Trinity on Church
We called you to challenge the church leaders to be efficient, transparent and decisive
We called you to challenge the whole congregation to be more self-aware
We called you to force us to try things differently
We called you to push us out of old habits
We called for you to make us look internally, look deep into our souls to listen to our hearts to help us draw up plans for what the next chapter of Trinity United Church would do
Thank you for making us, at times very uncomfortable. Thank you for allowing us to see our potential.
On behalf of the board and the congregation we hope you will take this small token of our thanks for caring so deeply about us and our future, even though we might not have always understood it to be so.
This piece represents our transition… we continue to honour the past, but also hold a mirror up to see ourselves more clearly as we move into our future… and we see how change can be transformative.
