Meet The Board of Trustees
and the Investment Committee

The Trustees are appointed directly by the Congregation. They are responsible for the physical and financial assets of this congregation and meet on an as required basis.

The Investment Committee is appointed by the Trustees to be is responsible for managing the non-operating financial funds of the congregation. These Funds are invested in accordance with the Investment Policy Statement (currently under review) approved by the Trustees and reviewed periodically. Investment Policy Statement approved by The Board.

Dave Rutherford worked as a Chartered Financial Consultant and Chartered Life Underwriter, retiring from Assante Financial in 2012.

Born in Ingersoll, Dave is a lifelong United Church member and a member of Trinity for the past 23 years. He is current member of Trinity Steering Committee for redevelopment and is the Past board chair. He has served and led many Trinity committees including Worship, Ministry and Personnel, Legacy investment, and Church Council.

Dave has also served on the United Church of Canada (UCC) Finance committee and UCC investment Committee. Outside of Trinity Dave’s an avid golfer and woodworker

Dave Rutherford

Originally from London, ON, Eric moved to Dryden, ON with his wife Marion after graduating from the University of Western Ontario.

Over the course of 37 years, Eric taught Chemistry to almost everyone in Dryden in addition to serving (and chairing) the Hospital Board, chairing the M & P and Board of Session of First United in Dryden and administering the Adult Education and Training program and the Co-Op Education Program for the Board of Education.

An avid canoeist, Eric has paddled to James Bay and Hudson Bay several times. He and Marion relocated to Kitchener to be closer to their three children and six grandchildren.

Eric Johnston

Ron is a lifetime resident of the Kitchener-Waterloo area, and a graduate of the University of Waterloo. Ron enjoyed a 30 year career with the Waterloo Region District School Board as Supervisor of Data Center, retiring in 2016.

He served as Trinity’s Treasurer from 2009 to 2011, and continues to be active in Trinity’s Legacy Fund committee.

Since retiring, Ron continues to volunteer his time with a local senior’s computer club, and as an amateur musician, playing flute and piccolo with local bands.

He lives in Kitchener with his wife Cathy and has 2 daughters attending University in Vancouver and Toronto.

Ron Baer

Ivan is a lifelong resident of Waterloo Region and has been connected to Trinity since he was baptized as an infant.

Ivan trained as a Chartered Accountant after graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Victoria College at the University of Toronto. Ivan founded a successful drywall and insulation construction business in the 1970's which later became a commercial real estate holding company.

Ivan is a long-standing member and past president of the Confederation Club; a member and past president of Probus; a member and past Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Kitchener-Conestoga (and now an Honorary Member). He also chaired Rotary's Dream Home Fund RAISER one year - an event that has raised millions of dollars for charities in our community.

Ivan has been very active at Trinity. He is a former Chairman of the Board, a member of the Investment Committee, the Board of Trustees, the Fellowship Club, Doors Open and the 175 Anniversary Planning Team, among other things.

Ivan was President of Interfaith Pastoral Counseling (now a part of KW Counseling) when it was connected to Trinity and he has belonged to the Conservative Business Association of Waterloo Region for many years.

Ivan is a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His wife, Carol lives at the Sunnyside Home in Kitchener; his daughter, Cathy and family live in Ayr and his son Ian and family live in Guelph.

Ivan enjoys spending time on the family farm near Ayr, Ontario which has been in his family since 1946.

Ivan Hurlbut

John has been a member of Trinity for over thirty years. He has served the Church in a variety of leadership roles, including Property Committee, Church Council, the Board (Treasurer since February 2013), Legacy Investment Committee and the Redevelopment Steering Committee. John brings risk management and a business perspective to his various roles at the Church.

Born and raised in Northern Ontario, John headed south to attend the University of Waterloo, met his wife Pamela and never left the Region

John Fraser

Dave Martin has been an active volunteer at Trinity for over 50 years. In the past he has been on the boards of the United Way, Waterloo Public Library and the Canadian Mental Health Association. He is married to Rowena and has two boys living in London, England and Sheparton, Australia. His working life was spent at Mutual Life/Clarica Life/Sun Life as an actuary primarily in the Group area. Most of his time was spent with pension plans, savings plans and related government regulations. He graduated from the University of Manitoba and moved from there to the Kitchener/Waterloo area. Hobbies are golf, music, bridge, reading and with boys living far away a lot of travelling.
