Trinity donates $25 000 to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region

On a cold December morning, Dave Rutherford and Janet Howitt presented a cheque to Nicole Marinelli at The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, a donation that provides 50 000 meals.

According to the Food Bank’s 2025 Community Impact Report, a record-breaking 9.6 million pounds of fresh, frozen, and non-perishable food was distributed in 2025. Visits to food hamper programs were up 11 percent from the previous year, the highest number ever recorded. Even more concerning, there was a 21 per cent increase in the number of households accessing a hamper program more than 8 times. Trinity’s very generous donation will have a significant impact locally.

The Food Bank has invited the congregations of Trinity and Forest Hill to sort food in 2026. The commitment would be two hours, which includes a 45-minute tour of the Food Bank. More information will be shared in 2026!
